Ingush villagers outraged by compensation amounts after natural disaster
Authorities have significantly underestimated the compensation amounts to residents of the village of Nizhnie Achaluki after the flood; some victims were not included into the lists at all, local residents have complained. An analyst has stressed the authorities' duty to help all those who suffered the damage, while the officials have reported on the completion of payments.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 16, a severe flood damaged 60 houses in the village of Nizhnie Achaluki. According to Yusup Kostoev, the head of the local administration, the commission has abridged the list of victims by significantly underestimating the evaluation of the damaged property.
Ten families from the above village wrote in their appeal to President Vladimir Putin about the soil sinking at the site where houses were built for migrants from the landslide zone, and asked to take measures to eliminate the consequences of the natural disaster, Magomed Mutsolgov, a human rights defender, wrote in his blog on the "Caucasian Knot".
Zakri Mamilov, the leader of Ingush trade unions, has noted that Ingush villagers live mainly at the account of their household land plots; there are no wealthy people there, and the flood has greatly distressed them.
The large family of Idris Kostoev has suffered from the flooding. According to his story, he had a small apiary, hens and chickens – all this was carried away by water. The family lost all their food supplies.
Authorities have estimated the damage from the flood caused to Fatima Kostoeva, the mother of seven children, at 20,000 roubles. She treats the amount as understated. According to her story, the outbuildings were damaged; and nothing remained of the reserves stocked for the winter.
