Leader of “Georgian Idea” disrupts LGBT action in centre of Tbilisi

Guram Palavandishvili, the leader of the “Georgian Idea” movement, broke an installation erected by LGBT activists in a Tbilisi park. He is detained, and a criminal case on harassment is instituted.

Earlier, Guram Palavandishvili has repeatedly carried out actions against the LGBT community. So, in July 2019, being the leader of the “For United and Moral Georgia” movement, Guram Palavandishvili organized a feast near a temple under construction in the city of Zugdidi. Everyone who signed a motion for adoption of a law banning the promotion of homosexuality was invited to the feast table.

The installation was entitled “Welcome to the closet” and was a booth that looked like a toilet, Tabula edition reports.

According to Londa Beriya, who witnessed the incident, Guram Palavandishvili said he broke the booth because it was painted in rainbow colours. “After that, the activists, together with eyewitnesses, tried to drive Guram Palavandishvili out of the park territory, but he continued to insult them,” Londa Beriya said. According to her, the police took Guram Palavandishvili out of the park, and the organizers of the action were invited to go to a police station for a questioning, but they refused, reports the edition as translated from Georgian by the “Caucasian Knot”.
