Three Chechen women publicly apologize for practicing witchcraft

After a conversation with a theologian, two women from the village of Vedeno and a woman from Urus-Martan repented of practicing occult services, the “Grozny” TV Channel reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from July 2019, the Chechen authorities have intensified the persecution of residents for practicing occult services. So, on March 6, the “Grozny” TV Channel released a story about two women from Urus-Martan who publicly repented for practicing witchcraft.

Other republics of Northern Caucasus also hunt for sorcerers, reports journalist Vladimir Sevrinovsky. In December, the journalist posted a study on Islamic medicine clinics.

“When Iman had a stomach ache, she addressed Maryam. The woman deceived the client by saying that she would help her,” the “Grozny” TV Channel reported in its Instagram story.

In its report, the “Grozny” TV Channel also describes a story of Merkhet, another resident of Vedeno: while working in the yard, her brothers found items indicating that their sister was practicing the occult services.

The TV Channel also mentions the third case of practicing occult services in Chechnya. “Aizla Tasaeva believes that she has superpower. She tried to use notes to keep her husband from leaving her,” the journalist explained.

In their comments, some users demand punishment for both the detained Chechen women and those who addressed them. Meanwhile, other users found it inappropriate to publicly reprimand people for practicing witchcraft.

Let us remind you that in Chechnya, the hunt for sorcerers resulted in the persecution of their clients. So, on January 17, a religious leader reprimanded a group of men from the Shali District and a taxi driver who drove them for visiting a sorcerer.
