Activist Murad Gorbakov arrested in connection with Magas rally

The Nalchik City Court has ruled to place Murad Gorbakov, a resident of Ingushetia, in custody for two months on suspicion of beating up law enforcers at a rally in Magas in March 2019.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, 2021, two persons were detained in connection with the rallies in Magas; one of them received trauma at detention, the advocates, Magomed Bekov and Djabrail Kuriev, assert.

On March 19, the Nalchik City Court ruled to arrest the detained Murad Gorbakov for two months. He is accused of using violence against "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard) fighters at a rally in Magas in March 2019, Bairamuk Bakkuev, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Murad Gorbakov claims that he was at the rally, but did not take part in clashes with "Rosgvardia" fighters, the advocate asserts.

Magomed Gorbakov, Murad's elder brother, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the detention of Murad was a complete surprise for everyone. "He is very calm. He went to rallies ... But I am sure that my brother didn't take part in clashes with law enforcers; he isn't the one to get into a fight," Magomed said.
