Public Chamber will consider a possibility to give out Maskhadov's body to his relatives

Antiwar organizations have sent an appeal to the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation (RF) with a request to consider the issue of giving out the remains of Aslan Maskhadov, former president of Chechnya, to his family for burial. It is addressed to Henry Reznik, member of the Chamber's Commission for public control over the law enforcement bodies, power agencies and reforming the judicial-legal system. This news was reported to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" by Irina Vologina, coordinator of the campaign of the Antiwar Club for giving-out Maskhadov's body to his relatives.

The authors of the document are also asking the Public Chamber to express their position on the conformity to the Constitution of Russia of Article 14.1 of the RF Law "On Burial and Funeral Business," which prohibits giving out bodies of the persons killed at stopping terrorist acts to their relatives for burial.

On March 8, 2005, Aslan Maskhadov, the second president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, was killed as a result of a special operation of the Special Forces ("spetsnaz") of the FSB (Federal Security Bureau) of Russia in the village of Tolstoy-Yurt of the Groznenskiy District of Chechnya.
