Rights defenders oppose deportation of Chechen from France

French authorities should not deport Ilyas Saduev, a native of Chechnya, to Russia, because in his homeland he is threatened with repressions, the author of the petition addressed to Emmanuel Macron state. This demand was supported by the Chechen human rights organization "Vaifond".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 3, 2020, members of the Chechen Diaspora and rights defenders held an action against the mass deportation of ethnic Chechens from Austria to Russia. Austrian authorities are violating the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), said Svetlana Gannushkina, the head of the "Civil Assistance" Committee.

The deportation issue of Chechens from France escalated after on October 16, 2020, in a Paris suburb, the teacher, Samuel Pati, was beheaded.

In Russia, Ilyas Saduev was accused of terrorism and put on the wanted list through the Interpol. The French court, having granted him refugee status, found him innocent, the "Dosh" magazine has reported.

European authorities underestimate the danger to dissidents in Chechnya and continue expelling natives of Northern Caucasus to their homeland, human rights defenders assert.
