Criminal case opened against Bagautdin Myakiev, sources report

The police have opened a criminal case against Ingush activist Bagautdin Myakiev for damaging property during his stay in a Nalchik SIZO (pre-trial prison), sources reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Bagautdin Myakiev was detained in April 2019, shortly after a rally in Magas. On February 20, 2020, the Ingush activist was sentenced to one year and nine months of imprisonment in a penal colony. The defendant admitted that at the rally he threw chairs in the direction of law enforcers, but said that he did not aim at fighters of the National Guard of Russia. On August 27, 2020, Bagautdin Myakiev was set free, and he regularly holds pickets after his release.

In Nalchik, the police opened a criminal case against Bagautdin Myakiev for destruction or damage of property (Part 1 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The activist is charged with damaging the property of the Nalchik SIZO, in which he was kept during the investigation into the "Ingush rally case", the "OVD Info" reports today.

According to the police, during his stay in a punishment cell, Bagautdin Myakiev "used physical force and broke a fence of a toilet unit," and the SIZO administration estimated the material damage at the amount of 5731 roubles, the "Fortanga" reports on its Telegram channel today.
