Makhachkala picketers demanded to release political prisoners

On March 1, four solo pickets with different demands were held in Makhachkala. Picketers demanded, in particular, to release the Dagestani journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev and other political prisoners.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Makhachkala, colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev regularly hold rallies with the demand to release him. A series of pickets took place on January 11 and 18.

Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charitable foundation, Kemal Tambiev (Tembiev), and Abdulmumin Gadjiev were detained in the case on financing of terrorism. Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been under arrest since June 2019.

The pickets, one of which was in support of Gadjiev, were held in central Makhachkala at the intersection of Gamzatov and Dakhadaev Streets. The pickets were held separately from each other.

The first picketer was Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly. He was holding a poster demanding Gadjiev's release. The second solo picket with a poster "Stop arrests without proofs!" was held by Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik". A resident of Makhachkala came out to the third picket with a poster "We are tired of werewolves with shoulder strips!" The fourth solo picket with a call to release all the political prisoners was held by Idris Yusupov, a Dagestani journalist, who himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

Mr Yusupov has noted that he went out for his solo picket demanding to free the political prisoners, since "this is a problem urgent for the whole of Russia." "I personally stand against persecuting people for political reasons and fabrication of criminal cases against them under various articles," he has explained.
