Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev refuses to plead guilty in court

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a correspondent of the Dagestani newspaper "Chernovik" (Rough Draft), accused in a case on financing of terrorism, refused to admit the charge brought against him and called it "abstract."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Makhachkala, colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev regularly hold rallies with the demand to release him. A series of pickets took place on January 11 and 18.

Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the "Ansar" charitable foundation, Kemal Tambiev (Tembiev), and Abdulmumin Gadjiev were detained in the case on financing of terrorism. Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been under arrest since June 2019.

On January 27, journalists were not allowed to the courtroom due to the prevention of coronavirus, said Idris Yusupov, a correspondent of the newspaper "Novoye Delo" (New Cause). According to the journalist, the court prevents the coverage of the trial by correspondents of some media.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev can no longer post his articles in the "Chernovik" as often as he did when he was kept at the Makhachkala SIZO (pre-trial prison), says Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani newspaper "Chernovik".

He has added that the activists will continue weekly pickets in Makhachkala in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
