Human rights defenders demand to investigate war crimes of parties to Karabakh conflict
Azerbaijan and Armenia used inaccurate weapons during shelling attacks on cities, towns, and villages during the autumn escalation of the Karabakh conflict, and as a result, dozens of civilians were killed and hundreds of others were injured. The parties to the conflict must bring the persons responsible for war crimes to justice, states the human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the AI called on the parties to the Karabakh conflict to stop using cluster bombs. During the escalation of the conflict, soldiers beheaded captives and desecrated the dead bodies of enemy soldiers, analysts state.
The human rights defenders registered four attacks by the Armenian forces on villages, towns, and cities in Azerbaijan, as a result of which 72 civilians were killed. The AI refers to the artillery strike on the village of Gashalty on September 27, a missile attack on Ganja on October 17, a drop of cluster bombs on the village of Karayusufli on October 27, and a missile attack on the city of Barda on October 28.
According to the human rights defenders, the Azerbaijani side committed nine attacks on civilians, as a result of which 52 residents were killed. The AI mentions, among other incidents, the shelling attack on Stepanakert from "Grad" multiple rocket launchers and with cluster munitions, as well as the missile attack on Martuni and Martakert.
