Swedish court links attempt on Tumso Abdurakhmanov with his criticism of Kadyrov

The court has passed a guilty verdict in the case of the attempt on the life of Tumso Abdurakhmanov and treated his criticism of Chechen authorities as the crime motive. However, the role of Chechen authorities has not been studied in detail. Sweden can refuse to extradite the convicted Chechen if it finds his return to his homeland dangerous for him.

The Swedish court has found both attackers on Tumso Abdurakhmanov guilty and sentenced them to ten and eight years in prison respectively.

The court did not believe Ruslan Mamaev's words that he had deliberately refused to kill Tumso, and sentenced him to the highest sentence demanded by the prosecutor's office – ten years in prison, said Per Lidqvist, the state prosecutor.

Oisin Cantwell, a columnist for the "Aftonbladet", has pointed to the "sophistication" of the assassination methods. He noted that the female defendant, who acted as a spotter, had married Abdurakhmanov. It was she who let the attacker into the blogger's house.

Mr Cantwell has added that, despite the investigators' conclusion about the state crime, it had little effect on Swedish-Russian diplomatic relations.
