Attacks on law enforcers
On December 15, law enforcers conducted a counterterrorist (CTO) special operation in the village of Katar-Yurt in the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya. During the CTO, "a member of illegal armed formations (IAFs) was killed:" when the law enforcers tried to detain the suspect he threw a grenade at them and was killed by return fire. No law enforcers were injured. An improvised explosive device (IED) was found during the search of the dead body. The law enforcement bodies reported that the killed man was identified as Kazbek Baidulaev, a native of the Chechen village of Yandi. According to the law enforcement bodies, 32-year-old Kazbek Baidulaev was involved in the hostilities in Syria since 2016, but returned to Russia in 2020. In 2008, Kazbek Baidulaev and his brother Anzor were sentenced to six months of imprisonment. Relatives claimed that law enforcers tortured Kazbek and Anzor to force them to sign confessions. In March 2009, the relatives of Kazbek Baidulaev reported that he had been taken away from his house by armed men. Several days later, Kazbek Baidulaev was found being kept at a ROVD (District Interior Division) in Grozny. When his mother visited him, Kazbek Baidulaev told her that the law enforcers had forced him to incriminate himself. Earlier, the law enforcement bodies already declared Kazbek Baidulaev killed: on October 11, two suspected militants were killed in the Sernovodsky District of Chechnya, one of whom was identified as Kazbek Baidulaev.
At night on December 17, in the Kurchaloi District of Chechnya, inspectors of the patrol-and-post service (known as PPS) of the Kurchaloi ROVD stopped a Lada car at a PPS checkpoint to check IDs of a driver and passengers. However, instead of producing their IDs, the people in the car tried to escape, opened fire at the policemen from automatic weapons, and threw an IED in their direction. Two attackers were killed by return fire. No policemen were wounded. The gunmen were identified as residents of the village of Tsotsi-Yurt in the Kurchaloi District and the village of Oktyabrsky in the Shali District of Chechnya.
