Kashatag residents give details of their exodus

The signing of the agreement, according to which the Kashatag (Lachin) District of Nagorno-Karabakh passes over to Azerbaijan, was quite a surprise for local residents. After the mass exodus, forced migrants found refuge with their relatives. They have admitted that the resettlement problem was mostly on their shoulders.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenians manifested their exodus from the Kelbadjar, Agdam and Lachin Districts by setting fire to their houses.

After signing of the agreement, it became clear that it would not be possible to avoid another exodus of Armenian population from Karabakh, said Arthur Aslanyan, a resident of the Kashatag District. He has not yet decided what he will do in Armenia. According to his story, it is more difficult to raise livestock here due to the limited territory.

Kamo Petrosyan has been living in the village of Tandzut since 1994. For many years he worked as the principal of the village school, which he himself founded. For the time being, the man prefers not to talk about the future. In his opinion, it will take time to realize what has happened.

Arman Srapionyan, the Deacon of the Tsitsernavank Church in the village of the same name, moved to Kashatag in 2000. He intends to return to Karabakh, to the areas that remained under the control of Armenian authorities. "I cannot stay in Armenia; it's ideologically difficult. I am spiritually linked to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). These are our lands. How can they be Turkish? There couldn't be any Christian Church of the 4th century in Turkish lands," the Deacon has emphasized.
