Two activists detained after clashing with police in Batumi

In Adjara, a protest action in front of the Government House escalated into a clash with law enforcers. The police detained at least two activists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 29, oppositionists and their supporters went to a protest action with the demand to re-hold the parliamentary election. The protestors also expressed their dissatisfaction with the severe restrictions imposed in connection with the coronavirus. On November 30, activists released balloons with the inscription: "Come out". They resorted to such a way to demand from Tornike Rizhvadze, the chairman of the Adjara government, to come out to the protesters. One participant of the protest action was detained, and a case was instituted against another protestor for petty hooliganism and failure to obey to a lawful request of the police.

Today, the activists were trying to attach balloons to lamp posts, while the police were attempting to prevent that. Rezo Kharazi, a member of the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, managed to climb onto a lamppost near the Government House and attach balloons to it.

The indefinite protest action began in Batumi on November 8. Its participants demand to hold new parliamentary elections and release political prisoners. Tents were set up in front of the Government House.

Let us remind you that the second round of the parliamentary elections took place on November 21, and the majority of votes were won by candidates from the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party.
