Georgian residents concerned about tighter COVID-19 restrictions

Severe restrictions will worsen the economic situation in Georgia; and ordinary people will suffer as a result, the opposition has stated. Entrepreneurs fear that a new wave of restrictions will bankrupt them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by the end of November, Georgia had taken the first place in the world in terms of coronavirus spread per 100,000 of population.

The planned severe restrictions will worsen the economic situation in the country; and ordinary citizens will suffer as a result, Zura Djaparidze, the leader of the oppositional "Girchi" Party, believes. He has noted that in summer the government should have prepared the public health sector properly, but this was not done. "Instead, the government is imposing unreasonable restrictions on the population," he said on November 26 on the air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel.

Gigi Bokeriya, the leader of the "European Georgia" Party has also criticized the restrictions introduced by the authorities. "This will be an additional blow to our citizens and businesses," the "InterPressNews" quoted him as saying.

Shota Burdjanadze, the founder of the Restaurant Association, has doubted that the businesses affected by the restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus would be able to continue their work. He believes that the support of entrepreneurs promised by the state is not enough.
