For KBR scientist, scientific studies turn into criminal prosecution

Khusein Karagulov, a scientist from the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), was accused of making medicinal drugs without authorities' permit. Karagulov, who is researching the healing mud of the Tambukan Lake, has stated that officials are fulfilling someone's order and would not listen to arguments in his defence.

The scientist, who has devoted more than 30 years to the study of the healing properties of the mud extracted from the bottom of the Tambukan Lake, is accused of being engaged in the production of the substance "Tambuil-Extract" without having a license to do so. Mr Karagulov himself claims that he has all the necessary permits, and the "Tambuil-Extract" was produced for scientific purposes in order to later obtain a license for it.

Besides, according to Karagulov, the drug cannot pose any threat to people's health, which is confirmed by clinical studies and patient feedbacks.

Albina Kambachekova, an advocate for Karagulov and his wife, treats her husband's criminal prosecution as illegal.
