Azerbaijan and Armenia exchange accusations of ceasefire violations
This morning, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled in spite of the agreement on a humanitarian truce, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated. In its turn, the Armenian MoD has accused Azerbaijan of shelling.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a new agreement on a humanitarian truce in the Karabakh conflict zone has come into force today.
Full-scale hostilities began in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27. The parties twice, on October 10 and 17, announced ceasefires, but the fighting at the frontline and shelling of dwelling settlements continued.
The ceasefire agreement has been violated, the press service of the Azerbaijani MoD has stated. "On October 26, at 8:05 a.m., Armenian Armed Forces, violating the new ceasefire regime, subjected the positions of the Azerbaijani Army located in the Safiyan village of the Lachin District to artillery shelling from the direction of the city of Lachin (part of the Kashatag District of Nagorno-Karabakh, – note of the "Caucasian Knot")," the message of the Azerbaijani MoD has stated.
In its turn, the Armenian MoD has accused Azerbaijani military servicemen of shelling the positions of the Defence Army of Nagorno-Karabakh. "Having grossly violated the agreement achieved in the USA on a humanitarian truce, at 8:45 a.m., the Azerbaijani side opened artillery fire in the direction of combat positions located in the northeast of Karabakh," the "Sputnik Armenia" quotes Shushan Stepanyan, the MoD's press secretary as saying.
