Chechen resident to get compensation for torture and unfair sentence

The European Court of Human Rights ruled to pay 67,000 euros to Chechen native Muslim Chudalov, who, being tortured, confessed to be a militant and was sentenced to 21 years of imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2012, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) accepted for consideration a complaint filed by Tabarik Chudalova, a mother of Muslim Chudalov, who was recognized by a court as a militant and sentenced to 21 years of imprisonment in a case on an attack on a law enforcer. The mother of the convict stated that her son was being tortured and not involved in any of the crimes he was charged with.

Muslim Chudalov was detained in January 2005. According to law enforcers, during his interrogation, the detainee fell with his face down on a red-hot oven. Muslim Chudalov himself claims that he was beaten and kicked to his head, and during interrogation he was tortured with electric current. After several hours of beatings, Muslim Chudalov signed a confession.

Later, the law enforcers demanded from him to sign confessions to a murder, and Muslim Chudalov refused. Then the law enforcers began to beat him on his feet with a truncheon and then pressed him with his face to a red-hot stove. Then Muslim Chudalov signed about 15 confessions to murders and attacks on law enforcers.

In 2012, Muslim Chudalov was again tortured in a penal colony. He claimed that prison warders hung him to the ceiling and kicked him and beat him with truncheons.
