Arrest of Kullar protester cancelled

The decision to arrest Anvar Muradov, a resident of Azerbaijan, accused of using violence against a policeman during the protests in Kullar, has been cancelled and sent for a new consideration, Murad Velikhanov, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 15, 2020, a protest action was held in the Kullar tent camp, which escalated into clashes with law enforcers. Four law enforcers and ten Azerbaijani citizens were injured. A total of 83 protesters were arrested for 10 days. Another 10 Azerbaijanis, including Anvar Muradov, were criminally prosecuted for the use of violence against state officials and deliberate destruction or damage of other's property. All of them were arrested by the court ruling for two months. The protesters refused to plead guilty.

On August 7, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan considered the appeal complaint lodged by the advocate, Murad Velikhanov. He asked to cancel the ruling of the Magaramkent District Court, which arrested Muradov for two months, and to change it for the house arrest, Murad Velikhanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The SC has satisfied the complaint in part. The decision of the Magaramkent Court was cancelled, and the investigator's motion demanding to arrest him was sent for a new consideration," said the advocate, adding that Muradov has been left in custody until August 16.
