FSB reports about mass detentions of arms makers in Southern Russia
Residents of 12 regions, including Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Rostov Region, and Chechnya, were detained on suspicion of manufacturing firearms and ammunition, the Russian FSB reported.
According to the FSB, in 12 regions of Russia, law enforcers stopped the activities of 42 people involved in the transformation of civilian firearms into combat ones, the manufacture of ammunition in illegal workshops, and sale of firearms.
Searches were carried out at apartments and houses of the suspects, including in four regions of Southern Russia: Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Rostov Region, and Chechnya.
The FSB seized 179 units of firearms, including a machine gun, submachine guns, machine pistols, rifles, carbines, pistols, and revolvers, as well as 17 hand grenades, about 15 kg of explosive substances, 110 detonators, and more than 80,000 rounds, the press service of the Russian FSB reported.
The FSB press service did not disclose the information concerning how many people had been detained in each of the regions and whether a criminal investigation had been started.
