During the week of July 20-26, 2020, at least four persons killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week of July 20-26, 2020, four suspected members of the armed underground fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 22, law enforcers encountered four armed persons in a camp arranged for a long stay in a forest near the village of Lechinkai in the Chegem District of Kabardino-Balkaria. According to the law enforcement bodies, when requested to surrender, the suspects rendered resistance and were killed by return fire.
At the place of the shootout, the law enforcers found a submachine gun, pistols, and ammunition. Moreover, an improvised explosive device (IED) was found and seized from the place of residence of the killed suspects in Nalchik. The FSB announced that all four killed suspects were members of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court.
Law enforcers continue raids near a mosque in Makhachkala
On July 24, law enforcers conducted a new raid near the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala. After the Friday prayer, the law enforcers stopped drivers leaving the mosque territory and asked them to produce their IDs for verification. Among others, the law enforcers chose the men wearing beards for the checks.
