Residents of Ingushetia sceptical of voting to constitutional amendments

Ingushetia has opened a total of 137 polling stations to vote on constitutional amendments. The voting is held daily starting from June 25.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, set July 1, 2020, as the voting date on constitutional amendments.

The amendments are offending national sentiments and assume the power non-changeability, opponents to the amendments are sure.

The residents of Ingushetia interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have explained the reluctance to go to the polls by the absence of expectations of any improvements from the amendments to the Constitution.

"I've been working in the trading sphere for many years; and I won't go to vote because ... [the authorities] are only promising, but doing nothing; even if ... the amendments are adopted, they won't change anything for the better," Dugurkhan, 29, said, in particular.

"I am categorically against this vote and these amendments," said the 55-year-old Ruslan Gaitukiev. "I've carefully studied each amendment; and I won't vote. Why is this haste during coronovirus; it's suspicious".

However, some respondents are convinced of the need to vote.

"I took part in the vote simply just for them not to put a tick for me. Once I took part in the election commission; and I know how it's all done. Therefore, you shouldn't give them a chance to fill out a ballot paper for you," said Akhmed Tangiev, a 42-year-old radio presenter.
