Residents of Chechnya surprised at lifting ban on weddings amid preservation of remaining bans

In Chechnya, people are waiting for lifting the ban on leaving home to be able to earn money; many have no money for holding weddings, local residents and Instagram users said in their comments to the statement of the Chechen Mufti about the permit to hold weddings according to the Sharia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 25, the Mufti of Chechnya announced the lifting of the ban on marriage according to Islamic standards, which was introduced because of the coronavirus pandemic; however, crowded ceremonies are still prohibited.

"They'd better announce that everyone can go to their workplaces," the user rozgorod has commented on the news in the page of the "Grozny-TV" channel on the Instagram. He pointed out that such wedding involves spending on rituals, kalym, dowry, etc., but people have no money for all that.

"What's the urgent need to get married, if a huge number of people have nothing to eat; and they have no work due to the quarantine?" the user podarki095_ wonders.

Residents of Chechnya were surprised that weddings were allowed before the other bans were lifted. "First we need the cancellation of the existing restrictions and prohibitions; people need the opportunity to go to work; and then think about weddings. Getting married is, first of all, huge expenses for the families of the bride and the groom, and now most people have no money even for foodstuffs," said Magomed, a resident of Grozny.
