Head of "Azel.tv" denies extortion charge

Afghan Sadygov, the head of the Azerbaijani edition "Azel.tv", accused of extortion, has been arrested for four months. He himself treats the accusation as slander.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 13, Sadygov's wife said that he has been detained, and their apartment was searched. She believes that her husband is being persecuted for his journalistic activities and statements in social networks.

"They turned our entire apartment upside down. They found only 30 manats (USD 18) in the flat; is a corrupt official living like that? They demanded passwords to the Facebook and YouTube from me. This indicates that Afghan is prosecuted for criticizing and exposing corrupt officials," Sevindj Sadygova believes.

On the eve of his detention, Sadygov posted a material on the Facebook stating that two girls in the village were raped, and the crime was not investigated. The journalist also criticized local authorities.

Let us remind you that Afghan Sadygov had earlier been persecuted. In January 2019, he was arrested for participating in an action in defence of the blogger, Mekhman Guseinov.
