Spouse of Azerbaijani oppositionist claims his kidnapping

Faig Amirli (Amirov), an assistant to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been kidnapped in Baku, and his whereabouts is unknown, his spouse reports. Colleagues of Faig Amirli from the PFPA associated the incident with the oppositionist's political activities.

Today, Faig Amirli has been kidnapped near the house in which he lives in Baku.

"Three cars drove up ... People jumped out of the cars, grabbed Faig, and forced him into one of the cars," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Lala Amirli, a spouse of the oppositionist.

"This is another link in the chain of pressure on the opposition, on the PFPA. Faig Amirli has already survived the fate of a 'prisoner of conscience.' Now he has been detained again. Faig Amirli is one of the leading political figures in our party and its administration. His kidnapping is an act aim to intimidate the opposition," said Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan.

Let us remind you that in 2017, Faig Amirli (Amirov) was found guilty of inciting religious hatred and avoiding taxes. In Baku, the court sentenced him to three years and three months of imprisonment. In the same year, the court replaced the remaining term of imprisonment with conditional sentence, and Faig Amirli was released.
