Video of humiliation of man without mask triggers criticism of Chechen law enforcers

Chechen law enforcers have publicly subjected a man to humiliating beatings for the absence of a medical mask, a lawyer of the Committee against Torture (CaT) has informed. Instagram users have also criticized law enforcers' actions.

Earlier, the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper reported that in Chechnya, law enforcers were armed with polypropylene pipes intended to punish quarantine violators. In his turn, Ramzan Kadyrov has stated that the law enforcers, who supervise the observance of quarantine measures in the republic, do not violate the law.

In the video posted on the Facebook, people in police uniform detain a man without a mask and stab him in the buttocks.

"I think that these kicks in the butt and plastic pipes will cause an image damage to the Chechen police, much higher than the stories of murders and torture," the user Sergey Shunin has suggested in his comment.

Instagram users also criticized the participants in the incident for humiliating the man.
