NKR counts 160 shelling attacks in the conflict zone over the week

Since March 1, Azerbaijani soldiers fired more than 1700 shots at positions of the Defence Army, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23-29, the NKR recorded 155 shelling attacks undertaken by the Azerbaijani side.

"During March 1-7, the Azerbaijani side violated the ceasefire on the troops contact line of the Artsakh Republic (the historical name of the NKR, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") and Azerbaijan for about 160 times, making more than 1700 small arms shots in the direction of the Armenian positions," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has conveyed the statement of the NKR's MoD.

By 2:21 p.m. Moscow time on March 7, the Azerbaijani MoD had not posted any comments on this statement on its website. According to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot", the Azerbaijani MoD recorded 171 shelling attacks on its positions in the Karabakh conflict zone and on the border with Armenia committed over the first week of March. Over the past 24 hours alone, the Armenian military servicemen violated the ceasefire for 24 times by using heavy machine guns, the Azerbaijani MoD has stated.

It should be noted here that on March 5-7, two border guards were killed at the military posts stationed in the Gazakh District of Azerbaijan, which borders on Armenia. Armenia, in its turn, reported a sabotage action in the north-eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, in which an Armenian soldier was wounded.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
