ECtHR awards compensations on North-Caucasian kidnapping complaints
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has obliged Russian authorities to pay 80,000-88,000 euros to residents of Dagestan and Ingushetia, who complained about kidnapping of their relatives by law enforcers.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of Omar Valibagandov appealed to the ECtHR in 2016.
Having considered the complaint of Islam Valibagandov, an Omar's brother, the ECtHR has obliged Russian authorities to pay him 80,000 euros of compensation. According to the ECtHR's decision, four articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which defend the rights to life and to an effective remedy, were violated in this case, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reported on its website on February 4.
Another ECtHR's decision was made on the complaint of Pyatimat Ausheva, a resident of Ingushetia, who claimed that in 2012, her son Ruslan Aushev was kidnapped at the railway station of the city of Mineralnye Vody by people who introduced themselves as FSB agents. Later, the FSB has officially refuted this information, and the inquiry into the kidnapping gave no results.
Ms Ausheva appealed to the ECtHR in 2017; and the latter has assessed the moral harm inflicted to her at 80,000 euros, and the material damage – at 8000 euros, the HRC "Mamorial" says in its message.
