Zelimkhan Tomov, participant of rally in Magas, convicted

A court in the Stavropol Territory has sentenced Zelimkhan Tomov, a participant in the March rally in Magas, to 17 months in a settlement colony. The activist has confessed to throwing stones at "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard) fighters.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Zheleznovodsk City Court began passing sentences on the March rally in Magas. On December 12, Ramazan Gagiev received four months of settlement colony. On December 13, Seit-Magomed Nalgiev was sentenced to 16 months of the same colony; he confessed to pressing a "Rosgvardia" fighter down with a metal fence.

On March 26, residents of Ingushetia extended a protest action in a square in Magas without a sanction from the authorities, and that resulted in clashes with law enforcers on the other day. In early April, the Ingush police began to arrest oppositionists.

Today, the above court has passed its verdict to Zelimkhan Tomov, another participant in Ingush protests, who was accused of using violence against a state serviceman, not dangerous to his life or health. The prosecutor demanded one year and three months of an ordinary colony for Tomov, but the judge sentenced him to one year and five months in a colony settlement.

"With account of the time he spent in custody during the investigation, Tomov will be set free on December 25. His stay at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) was counted as day-for-two," a source from the above court told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Aslan Archakov, a Tomov's advocate, said that he had fully pled guilty after he was shown a video, in which he threw stones at "Rosgvardia" fighters. "To be true, he missed the target [a law enforcer]," Mr Archakov has noted.
