Law enforcers' raid in Makhachkala

On November 29, law enforcers conducted another raid near the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala. More than 50 law enforcers took part in the raid; their mobile posts were deployed on both sides of Omarov Street, at exit from the mosque, as well as at the exit to Gagarin Street. Law enforcers stopped cars and checked documents. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan has explained that the law enforcers participating in the raid at the "Tangim" Mosque "ensured the public order in crowded places." The MIA source has emphasized that during the check, no one was taken to the police station.

Detentions in Dagestan and Moscow

On November 28, the FSB and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) stated that they had detained members of the so-called "Sharapov" grouping. From August to November 2019, four alleged members of this grouping were detained in Dagestan and Moscow. Among the 250 members of the grouping there were the then officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, members of the republic's Bar Association and militants. In particular, according to law enforcers, they were involved in the terror act in Makhachkala on September 4, 1998, which killed about 20 people and injured more than 60 others. The "Sharapov" grouping's arsenal consisted of anti-tank missile systems, as well as many small arms and automatic weapons, ammunition thereto and explosives. This arsenal was seized; explosive items were neutralized, law enforcers have reported.
