In Armenia, relatives of deceased soldiers claim inaction of investigators

The Armenian parliament held a discussion concerning the process of reviewing cases of the soldiers who deceased in peacetime. In the course of the discussion, relatives of the soldiers claimed that investigators were not trying to find out the true causes of the deaths of their sons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February, the Investigative Committee of Armenia entered into an agreement with human rights organizations to review cases on the deaths of six Armenian soldiers whose relatives were dissatisfied with the results of the investigation.

The Armenian authorities announced that the cases on peacetime deaths of military personnel, including Valery Muradyan, Tigran Ogandjanyan, Arman Akopyan, Andranik Silakyan, as well as an unsolved case about the deaths of two soldiers in Matagis, will be reviewed, the "News-Armenia" reports.

Parents of the deceased soldiers said that the commission included those officials who had earlier participated in the investigation into their cases, but failed to carry out the investigation effectively enough.

Goar Sargsyan, a mother of Tigran Ogandjanyan, expressed her indignation about the version of her son's death voiced by an investigator. Her son, soldier Tigran Ogandjanyan, deceased in 2007. According to the official version, his death was caused by an electric shock. The parents believe that their son was killed and an electric charge was generated in order to hide the murder. They claim there were numerous signs of violence on their son's body.
