Defence treats investigation into Dagestani journalist Gadjiev's case as ineffective

Investigative actions in the case against journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev have not been carried out for at least a month, but an investigator refers to them as grounds for an extension of the journalist's arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 15, in Makhachkala, a court left an editor of the religion department of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft) in custody until November 13.

Starting from June 18, Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been under arrest in the case on financing of terrorism. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized the journalist as a political prisoner.

Investigator Nadir Televov refers to the testimony given by Kemal Tambiev, which proves the journalist's guilt, as the grounds for the arrest. The investigator also states that Abdulmumin Gadjiev can impede the criminal proceedings.

Advocates called the investigation ineffective. According to Asad Djabirov, on September 10, when extending the pre-trial restriction measure for Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the court did not take into account any argument presented by the advocates.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev denies the findings of the investigator who states the defendant knows other defendants and witnesses in the case and, being at liberty, can put pressure on them. Besides, the arrested journalist states that for four months, no investigative actions have been conducted with his participation.
