Detentions in Kabardino-Balkaria

On October 7, in Baksan, Asker Khamukov, a founder of the "One Body" charity foundation, was detained on suspicion of financing terrorism. A search was conducted at his home. According to relatives of Asker Khamukov, his wife and his sister were also detained. After the detention, the sister of Asker Khamukov was hospitalized and gave birth to a child on October 8. Starting from February 2015, they were raising money through the Internet for the needs of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, investigators suggest. The fundraising involved not only residents of Kabardino-Balkaria, but also people from Karachay-Cherkessia, Ingushetia, Krasnodar, the Stavropol Territory, and other regions of Russia. On October 11, it was reported that Asker Khamukov was arrested for two months. His relatives were not informed of the whereabouts of Asker Khamukov, said his father Mukhamed Khamukov. According to the man, his daughter was released under house arrest until December 9.
