Azerbaijan reports 22 shelling attacks from the Armenian side

Over the past 24 hours, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone were subjected to 22 shelling attacks, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning on October 11, Azerbaijan announced 22 shelling attacks on its positions committed from heavy machine guns and sniper rifles.

The same number of shelling attacks was counted by the MoD from morning of October 11 to the morning of October 12. "The units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire in various sections of the frontline for 22 times during the last 24 hours," the Azerbaijani MoD states on its website.

The shelling was carried out both from Armenia, and from the territory, which is under the control of Nagorno-Karabakh, the message says.

As of 8:45 a.m. Moscow time on October 12, the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh had not responded to the above statement of their counterpart's statement in their websites.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
