Malsag Uzhakhov gets help of doctors in SIZO

The health state of Malsag Uzhakhov, the head of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans), has deteriorated sharply at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Vladikavkaz, his advocate reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, Malsag Uzhakhov, the head of the Ingush Council of Teips, refused to attend a court hearing and explained that he felt ill while he was being transferred in a prisoners' wagon from the Vladikavkaz SIZO to the City Court of Nalchik.

Malsag Uzhakhov was arrested under the case of the attack on policemen during protest rally in Magas in March. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" declared him to be a political prisoner.

Today, the health state of Malsag Uzhakhov has deteriorated, advocate Djabrail Kuriev has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the advocate, within six days, Malsag Uzhakhov had already twice needed the help of doctors. "The administration didn't call an ambulance to the SIZO. Medical officers of the SIZO provided first aid, but my client feels severe weakness, dizziness, and nausea," says Djabrail Kuriev, who has visited the Vladikavkaz SIZO today.

Let us remind you that on March 26, residents of Ingushetia continued their protest rally in a square in Magas without a sanction from the authorities, and on the other day, clashes occurred between the protestors and the law enforcers who tried to disperse the rally. In early April, arrests of oppositionists began in the republic. According to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot", at least 96 activists were persecuted after the March protests in Ingushetia, and criminal cases were instituted against at least 29 of them.
