Three opposition activists detained at protest action in Georgia

On September 8, policemen detained three supporters of the "Alliance of Georgia's Patriots" after a clash at a rally in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after on September 2, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze, announced his resignation, the head of the "Georgian Dream" Party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, nominated Giorgi Gakhariya, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia to the post of the Premier. On September 8, Mr Gakhariya was approved as the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The resignation of Giorgi Gakhariya from the post of the MIA head was one of the main protesters' demands at the actions that began on June 20, after the Russian State Duma MP Sergey Gavrilov took the chair of the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament at a meeting of the Parliamentary Orthodox Assembly.

A brawl of activists of the "Alliance of Georgia's Patriots" took place on September 8 at the venue in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi. The police failed to let the party supporters to the venue, and they rendered resistance, the "Sputnik Georgia" reports.

"Three persons were detained in the administrative order; they violated the public order, [...] a group of citizens came to the action; they refused to obey the police," the Georgian Public Broadcaster, quoted Vazha Siradze, the head of the patrol police department.
