Social networks treat Shevchenko's statement as another apology to Kadyrov

The refusal of journalist, Maxim Shevchenko, from his words in relation to Ramzan Kadyrov has reminded social network users of other apologies to the head of Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 12, Maxim Shevchenko apologized for his words that Ramzan Kadyrov "had backpedalled" in the discussion about Imam Shamil.

On the 20th anniversary of the invasion of Chechen militants in Dagestan, Ramzan Kadyrov drew a parallel between those events and the Caucasian war of the 19th century and accused Imam Shamil of reprisals against Chechens for their unwillingness to confront Russia. Residents of Dagestan condemned these Kadyrov's statements.

Social network users have treated Maxim Shevchenko's recall of his words as another apology to Ramzan Kadyrov, and a refusal from his position. Many commentators have ironically noted that the journalist did exactly the same thing for what he had condemned Kadyrov.

"Now, Kadyrov has every right to say that Shevchenko 'has backpedalled'. And something tells me that he won't apologize to his opponent later," Nikolai Rudenskiy, a journalist, wrote in his Facebook page. "For several years already, apology videos to Ramzan have been a favourite format of the Russian Internet," he has added in his comment to the post.

Other social network users have also recalled the practice of public apologies to the head of Chechnya. "It's high time to launch a new TV channel with apologies to Kadyrov," Ivan Sergeev has sneered at the public of "Meduza".

The subscribers of Maxim Shevchenko on the Instagram have suggested that Chechen authorities had intimidated the journalist. "And who wants his fingers to be broken and his tongue torn out?" the user keran.ibragimkhalilov has noted.
