Nika Gvaramiya refuses to pay bail amount

The defence will appeal against the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, which pronounced a pre-trial restriction measure in the form of more than 13,000 US dollars of bail against Nika Gvaramiya, the former general director of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel, his advocate reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that on August 9, Nika Gvaramiya was summoned to the General Prosecutor's Office, and he was formally charged under the article on using the power of the director to gain profit, which entailed significant damage. On August 11, the Tbilisi City Court partially granted the motion of the General Prosecutor's Office and pronounced the bail of 40,000 laris (more than 13,000 US dollars) as a pre-trial restriction measure.

On the air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel, advocate Dmitry Sadzaglishvili reported that a complaint against the decision of the Tbilisi City Court would be filed on August 12. According to the advocate, Nika Gvaramiya was not going to pay the bail amount pronounced by the Tbilisi City Court.

"This is a matter of principle," Nika Gvaramiya himself explained his decision as quoted by the "Sova".

The advocate has also noted that Nika Gvaramiya does not refuse to take part in the proceedings and does not intend to leave the country.
