Investigators reject complaint about torture of Dagestani residents
An investigator has seen no grounds for initiating a criminal case on the torture complaint during the detention of Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov in Derbent. Their advocate filed an appeal against the investigator's decision, while the aunt and mother of the detainees told about the deterioration of their health.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov and Mizarali Mizaraliev are suspected of illegal circulation in explosives, firearms and ammunition. The detainees assert they had signed their confessions under duress.
On June 24, mothers of Barzukaev and Kurbanov went on a hunger strike at the police building in Derbent demanding to release their sons. On July 9, they stopped their action due to aggravated health. Relatives of the detainees insist that Barzukaev and Kurbanov are innocent.
Members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) claim that all the three detainees have spots on their hands, similar to signs of torture by electric current.
Zainab Rabadanova, a Kurbanov's aunt, has noted that his condition worsened, and since July 22, he is in the prison medical unit. According to her story, after detention, he had head and knee traumas.
Islam Barzukaev's mother also said that she had learned about the deterioration of her son's health and complained that she was not allowed to visit him in the isolation facility.
According to Kurbanov's aunt, he complained of severe headaches and hallucinations.
