Law enforcers conduct raids in Grozny and Makhachkala
On July 30, local residents reported that in the streets of Grozny, law enforcers arranged another raid to check IDs of young people with beards. Law enforcers in black uniforms stopped young people wearing beards and wrote down their personal data. The spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya confirmed that the checks were being carried out in the streets and called them "preventive measures aimed at ensuring security in the region."
On August 2, another law enforcers' raid took place near the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala. More than 20 law enforcers participated in the raids, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by journalist Idris Yusupov. According to him, law enforcers stopped cars and asked drivers to show their IDs and car documents and then they wrote down the data of the cars and their owners. The press service of the MIA for Dagestan explained the law enforcers' checks by conducting operations "Alcohol" and "Seat Belt".
IEDs found in Dagestan and Kabardino-Balkaria
On August 4, nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were discovered in an abandoned warehouse on the north-eastern outskirts of the village of Gimry in the Untsukul District of Dagestan, the FSB reported. The charge power of explosive devices was about 90 kilograms in TNT equivalent. All bombs were destroyed at the place.
On August 1, the police discovered ammunition and components for the manufacture of an improvised explosive device among belongings of residents of Kabardino-Balkaria. In Nartkala, policemen stopped a VAZ-2199 car for inspection and discovered that a 23-year-old resident of Chegem was transporting 52 rounds and components for explosives. Several hours later, during a search of a house belonging to another 34-year-old resident of Chegem, field investigators found a grenade and a fuse in the utility room. Both suspects were detained.
