Dismissed "Rustavi-2" director general summoned for interrogation to GPO

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Georgia has summoned Nika Gvaramiya, the former director general for questioning within the case of the misappropriation of money from the "Rustavi-2" TV Company. He denies his involvement in financial frauds and believes that the GPO's interest is political in nature.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nika Gvaramiya was fired on July 18, immediately after the court decided to transfer the company's assets to its former owner Kibar Khalvashi.

The Georgian GPO has summoned Mr Gvaramiya for interrogation, the Office reported on its website on August 1. It is planned to question the former director general "as part of the investigation of abuse of authority [...] at the "Rustavi-2" TV Company," says the GPO's statement translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. In particular, investigators will question him on the large-scale embezzlement of company's funds by abusing the official position and concealing property," the GPO has noted.

Nika Gvaramiya has stated that he is ready to testify and rejected his involvement in any company's financial frauds.

The former director general believes that one of the reasons for the GPO's interest in him was the announcement of the creation of a new oppositional TV channel, and the authorities are "trying to neutralize him."
