In Dagestan, hunger-striker claims law enforcers' indifference to protest action

In Derbent, the law enforcement bodies did not respond to a protest of a mother of Islam Barzukaev, who was suspected of possessing weapons, noted Elena Barzukaeva on the fourth day of her hunger strike. According to her, law enforcers warned people not to approach the picketer.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 28, the mother of Islam Barzukaev, suspected of possession of weapons, resumed her hunger strike in Derbent with the demand to conduct an independent examination of her son to detect use of torture against him. Later, a mother of Gasan Kurbanov, detained in the same case, also decided to join the protest action.

Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mizarali Mizaraliev, detained together with them on June 15, are suspected of illicit trafficking in explosives, arms, and ammunition. Relatives of the detainees insist that the suspects are not guilty.

The relatives of detained Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov stay around the clock in front of the Derbent police department, reports Elena Barzukaeva, a participant of the protest action. According to her, till present, no law enforcers want to conduct a dialogue with the protestors.

Meanwhile, many passers-by support the protest action and help Elena Barzukaeva.

Earlier, the mothers of Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov have stated that when the detainees were examined, Islam Barzukaev had a bruise, and all three detainees had points on their hands that looked like signs of torture with electric current.
