Head of Ingushetia announces his resignation

Yunus-Bek Evkurov has asked President Putin to dismiss him from his post of the head of Ingushetia before term.

Evkurov has been leading Ingushetia since 2008. The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, 2018, the People's Assembly of Ingushetia, by an overwhelming majority, re-elected him as the head of the republic.

Since the autumn of 2018, opponents of the border agreement with Chechnya, signed by Evkurov and Ramzan Kadyrov, have been demanding Evkurov's resignation.

The address of Yunus-Bek Evkurov to republic's residents appeared today on the website of the head of Ingushetia.

"I've made a decision to appeal to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, with a request for my early resignation from the post of the head of the republic," says the address.
