MIA reports about 305 detainees at protest action in Tbilisi

The court arrested four participants of the protest rally in front of the Georgian parliament for 12 days, and other several dozen people are waiting for court hearings. A reporter of a local TV channel was also detained while filming the demonstration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Council of Europe (CE) Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović called on the Georgian authorities to investigate the clashes in which Beslan Kmuzov, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, and other journalists were injured.

This morning, law enforcers dispersed the protest action, launched on June 20 in front of the parliament building of Georgia. According to the Georgian Ministry for Public Health, 240 people were hospitalized, and some of them were seriously injured. Beslan Kmuzov, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who attended the protest action, was hospitalized with a wound in his head.

The police detained 305 people for participating in the protest rally in central Tbilisi, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports today with reference to a statement released by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). All detainees are accused under Article "Organization of group violence, leadership or participation in it".

Niko Mukhigulashvili, a journalist from the "First Channel" of Georgia, was also detained near the Philharmonic Hall building. "The police demanded from him to stop taking pictures of what was happening. Niko said that (he) was a journalist and showed his ID, but policemen ... detained (him)," said a camera man from the "First Channel", who accompanied the journalist.

Today, the Tbilisi City Court has already sentenced four detainees to 12 days of administrative detention for participating in the rally in Rustaveli Avenue. Several dozen people are waiting for court hearings, the Georgian "Rustavi-2" TV Company reports today (as translated from Georgian by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent).
