Oyub Titiev: I never stopped and will continue being engaged in human rights activities
After his release from a penal settlement colony, Oyub Titiev has reported that he will not be working for the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Chechnya. However, he has promised that he will continue his human rights activities.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 18, Oyub Titiev, the head of the HRC "Memorial" office in Grozny, was sentenced to four years of imprisonment in a penal settlement colony on the charge of drug possession. On June 10, the court granted the motion of Oyub Titiev for his conditional early relief (CER). Today, Oyub Titiev has left the penal settlement colony in Argun.
Oyub Titiev insists on his innocence. According to him, the drugs, for possessing which he was convicted, were planted on him. The HRC "Memorial" pointed to 10 facts testifying to the falsification of the criminal case against Oyub Titiev.
After his release from the prison, Oyub Titiev has announced that he never stopped his human rights activities and will continue his activities, but first of all he will be engaged in restoring his house.
When asked about his health state, Oyub Titiev has answered that he feels great. "The HRC 'Memorial' office will no longer work in Chechnya, but its activities will be continued in any case," the human rights defender said.
