Three Kocharyan's opponents detained after clashes with police in Yerevan

During a protest rally of opponents of the former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, held outside the building of the Court of Appeal (CoA) in Yerevan, there were clashes with policemen; three activists were detained. The court session on Kocharyan's case was postponed till June 19.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 18, 2019, the court released Robert Kocharyan, the second president of Armenia, from custody under the guarantee of the incumbent and a former presidents of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), Bako Saakyan and Arkadi Gukasyan. On May 23, the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia appealed against Mr Kocharyan's release.

On June 18, the CoA of Armenia considered the case of Robert Kocharyan and other former high-ranking officials. The court session took place against the background of two protest actions, which were organized by Kocharyan's supporters and opponents, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.

At the end of the session, Robert Kocharyan's opponents tried to block the entrance to the courthouse, which led to clashes with the police. Law enforcers detained three activists and brought them to the police station.
