Opponent of gay parade in Tbilisi announces creation of legion
Activists who oppose gay parades began to create a legion to counteract the LGBT Week expected on June 18-23. Volunteers will patrol the city and interfere with LGBT actions. A legion's camp would be open for the above period in one of the central parks of Tbilisi, reported businessman Levan Vasadze, one of the initiators of the legion's creation, at a meeting with like-minded people held in the evening on June 16. The Levan Vasadze's statement, translated into Russian by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, was voiced on the air of the "Palitra News".
According to Levan Vasadze, in the coming days, volunteers will be recruited in the park: the activists will include in the lists of volunteers their names, surnames, age, and military training experience. "We will create units, and throughout the week they will peacefully patrol different areas of the city," Levan Vasadze told the participants of the meeting, attended by men only. According to the "Palitra News", several hundred people came to the meeting.
Levan Vasadze has emphasized that the volunteers on patrol will be not armed. However, in the event of any demonstration of the LGBT community, the volunteers are ready to "break through any police cordon."
