Eight gay parade opponents detained in Tbilisi
LGBT activists have gathered outside the government building in Tbilisi, protesting against the statement of the Patriarchate about the unacceptability of the gay parade. Eight of the participants in the counteraction were detained for disobeying the police.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Tbilisi Pride" organization announced a "March of Dignity" and other events for LGBT people to take place on June 18-23, 2019, in Tbilisi. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) stated they would not be able to protect marchers from possible attacks. The Georgian Patriarchate has called the holding the LGBT march in the country to be "absolutely unacceptable."
One of the participants in the counteraction shouted insults at LGBT activists and threw eggs at them. According to the MIA, this man and seven other like-minded persons were detained for disobeying the police.
Let us remind you that in May this year, Georgian LGBT activists refused from their actions on the International Day Against Homophobia, explained their decision by the risk of conflicts with opponents of LGBT people.
