NKR residents tell about their expectations of ConIFA tournament

After two days of the ConIFA-2019 Football Championship held in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), the teams of Abkhazia and Western Armenia are in the lead. Locals hope that the tournament of this scale will bring the NKR closer to international recognition.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the European Championship under the auspices of the ConIFA (Confederation of Independent Football Associations, which unites unrecognized countries-non-FIFA members) takes place in Nagorno-Karabakh on June 1-9.

After two days, Abkhazia's team is leading in Group A, while Western Armenia's one – in Group B, Grachui Barseghyan, the head of PR and marketing of the ConIFA Sportsbet.io European Football Cup 2019, said at a press conference held at the Stepanakert Media Centre.

Anush Avanesyan, a local woman, who has attended the matches, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about her impressions. In her opinion, every few years it is necessary to hold major events in the NKR, so that people come from other countries and communicate with other nations.

"You see, we have been shouting for many years that we need international recognition, but, apart from political processes, nothing is done to achieve this goal. And international events may contribute to this process," she has stated.
