Ismail Nalgiev deported from Belarus to Russia

Belarusian law enforcers have sent the Ingush activist Ismail Nalgiev out to Russia, banning him from entering Belarus for ten years, the advocate, Anton Gashinsky, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ismail Nalgiev, the coordinator of the organization "Choice of Ingushetia", was detained on May 8 at the Minsk airport, from where he had planned to fly to the Czech Republic. Nalgiev was charged with an administrative offense; and the consideration of his case was scheduled for today at the Oktiabrsky District Court of Minsk.

On May 9, human rights organizations called to prevent a violation of Nalgiev's rights and not extradite him to Russia, where he may be tortured in Ingushetia. Ismail Nalgiev himself promised to go on a hunger strike if deported to Russia.

The advocate Gashinsky learned about Nalgiev's extradition to Russia from the head of the Citizenship and Migration Division of the Oktiabrsky RUVD (District Interior Department) of Minsk. Mr Gashinsky filed a complaint against the decision to deport Nalgiev, trying to suspend his extradition for the consideration period, the edition named "Belarusian News" reports.

The decision to deport Nalgiev was made by the above division without a court trial.

Belarusian law enforcers explained Nalgiev's detention and deportation by the fact that he was on the interstate wanted list as a person who violated his recognizance not to leave. "But Nalgiev was unaware of this freedom restriction measure; he was even unaware of the fact that he was a figurant of a criminal case," said the advocate.
